Colin Gowdy is the firm’s senior partner. After graduating from the Faculty of Law at The Queen’s University of Belfast, he began his legal career as an apprentice in S&R Crymble (an old established Belfast practice) and became a partner in 1972.

In 1979 he and Thomas Q. King (the senior partner in S&R Crymble) set up the practice of King & Gowdy which, a short time later, incorporated their old firm of S&R Crymble.

Colin Gowdy has vast experience in all aspects of commercial transactions, particularly commercial property. He is also in charge of the firm’s extensive private client department.

In addition to his responsibilities at work, Colin Gowdy is a Deputy County Court Judge and serves on the Professional Ethics and Guidance Committee of the Law Society of Northern Ireland. He is the Vice-Chairman of the Complaints Committee of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland and has recently retired as a Trustee of the Royal National Institute for the Deaf having served for many years as the trustee representing the deaf community in Northern Ireland. He has served as an Assistant Boundary Commissioner and has been Chairman of the Belfast Solicitors’ Association.  Colin Gowdy has been on the Board of Governors of the Royal Belfast Academical Institution for a number of years. In his spare time he enjoys playing golf – or possibly playing at golf. A representative swimmer in his youth, he tries to hide anno domini by still indulging in aquatic pursuits.
